Once content is published, it keeps working for you forever

Listen or Watch on

We like to think that once we hit publish, our content will keep working for us forever. That is the myth I am busting in this episode, because the reality is all content decays. Left untouched, it loses relevance, slips down the rankings, and eventually stops pulling its weight.

Content decay happens for a few reasons. Google’s algorithms shift, competitors publish fresher takes, your brand positioning evolves, and your customers themselves change. Even if a blog post was gold two years ago, today it might be stale or even misleading. I explain why Google looks at freshness and authority as key ranking factors and how an outdated website, especially one untouched for 3 to 5 years, can quietly drag your business down.

Decay is not just about search. It is about customer perception. Outdated messaging or case studies signal you are not keeping pace. With the rise of AIO and AEO (Artificial Intelligence Optimisation and Answer Engine Optimisation), updating your content is not only about staying visible in search, it is also about being discoverable in new AI-powered channels.

The truth is simple: if you are not updating your content, you are not just standing still; you are falling behind.
