As a digital entrepreneur, I’ve always valued the wealth of knowledge that podcasts offer. They fit seamlessly into my busy schedule, inspiring and insights while I’m on the go. Well, let’s be realistic, my “on the go” time is usually when I am doing cardio, whether the cross trainer, going for a run or having a little wandering walk. My podcasting journey began with this love for learning from others. I wanted to create a platform where I could share my experiences and insights, helping others navigate the ever-evolving marketing world, I covered this off in blog when I launched the show. This led to the birth of my podcast, Engage And Thrive aka EAT, which by the nature of what you will see below of the links to other podcasts, mine was designed as a video-first, mobile-focused podcast.
The Rise of Podcasts
Did you know there are over 2 million podcasts with more than 48 million episodes available globally? It can be overwhelming to decide which Podcasts to give your time too. Podcast listenership has been growing at a rate of about 10-20% annually. The average listener tunes in for about 6-7 hours per week, nearly a full working day, making podcasts a powerful tool for continuous learning and professional development. I’m quite fussy about my choice of podcasts, I want to feel like I can nod along with the host(s) as though I’m there in the room with them otherwise I want to be jotting down notes of their tips or things to investigate further. If someone has too many sponsorships and ad breaks, I’m out.

Finding time to listen to a podcast
Think you don’t have time to squeeze in podcasts? I bet I can find it for you! Here are some suggestions for fitting podcasts into your busy schedule:
- In the shower – Start your day with some inspiration and insights. Let’s be honest, most of us have our phones in the bathroom anyways otherwise get a handy waterproof speaker
- On your commute – On the tube or in the car, this is a great time to focus in and have some company. I used to love these moments commuting on the tube to London in my own little world
- House chores – Depending on your situation whether you have help with doing house chores or whether you allocate the time to smash through it, sometimes this may be the best time to plug in and power through. Why not stimulate your mind whilst scrubbing down those shower tiles!
- Going for a walk, run or likewise – Since becoming a business owner I no longer have a “commute” so I’ve had to change up my habits with how I listen to podcasts, now I find cardio sessions the happy balance combining physical activity with professional growth, it seems to make the sweat session go a little faster.
- Around the supermarket – This is another one which will depend if you do it by yourself or go with a partner, but for me, I want to get in and get out, typically with a very precise shopping list and so being plugged in helps to get less distracted by with unnecessary purchases
