I was the Account Director on Travelodge for a couple of years.
From being the Account Director for Travelodge, I had built a strong relationship with the HR department. We had the original contract for external communications, however internal comms, particularly Learning and Development had heard about it and set us a brief. We had 48hrs to turn around the brief into a concept and include full costings. The brief was simple. A toolkit to be provided to each of the 500 Travelodge hotels which Managers would host training sessions for their staff. Over 11,000+ employees with a variety of skills and at different levels, plus limited resource/ tech to provide the learning.
We decided to create a bespoke travel-case, which contained all the necessary training materials, but also doubled up as a projector. The wheels made it practical as it needed to be transportable around the hotel and easily moved to each area of the training. The finished travel-case included a speaker, a reception bell, stickers, an air horn, playing cards, USB sticks with training videos, passports (notepads) and an ink stamp.
The whole project took 12 weeks, lots of tears and late nights during Christmas but we managed to delivery 600 toolkits for 11,000 employees to their deadline conference in London. A few weeks after the project went live, the HR Director contacted us to say people had stolen parts of the toolkit but she said that was a positive thing as that meant they were “cool”.
