If it’s measurable, it must matter. All metrics are equal.

Listen or Watch on

There is a dangerous misconception in business that if something is measurable it must be meaningful. Leaders and teams end up tracking every number they can find, convinced that data alone equals insight. In this episode I challenge that thinking and show why not all metrics are created equal.

I explain the difference between vanity metrics and meaningful metrics and why obsessing over the wrong numbers leads to poor decisions. It is easy to get distracted by followers, impressions, or downloads, but those do not tell you whether your strategy is working or if your business is actually growing. The value comes from identifying the metrics that connect directly to outcomes, the ones that truly drive progress.

We look at examples like conversion rates, ROI, customer lifetime value, CAC, and attribution and contrast them with empty numbers that might look good in a report but do not change your bottom line. I also talk about the importance of building a clear data strategy — mapping out how information flows through your business, where the touchpoints are, and how reporting links back to decision-making.

Metrics that matter are not about tracking everything. They are about clarity, focus, and knowing which signals actually move the needle. Measuring what matters gives you insight, alignment, and confidence to make smarter decisions.
