Employer branding is only important for writing job adverts

Listen or Watch on

Employer branding has nothing to do with logos on job posts and everything to do with how people experience your business. In this episode I bust the myth that employer brand only matters when you are hiring and explain why it is central to culture, retention, and reputation.

A strong employer brand shapes the way your people feel about working for you and influences how the outside world sees you. It affects Glassdoor reviews, the stories employees share on LinkedIn, and whether your team chooses to stay and grow with you. This is not something reserved for big corporates with huge HR budgets. Smaller businesses and growing teams need it just as much if they want to attract and retain the best people.

I explain why employer branding is part of your overall business strategy rather than just an HR function. It shows up in how leaders live the company values, the opportunities for growth you provide, and how safe and supported people feel day to day. When those pieces align, you create a workplace that people want to join, stay in, and advocate for.

External platforms like LinkedIn and Glassdoor play a role, but the real work happens inside. If you get the employee experience right, your external reputation takes care of itself. Employer branding is about building a culture people are proud of, fuelling retention, and strengthening your reputation in ways no recruitment ad can.
